Just got started on these 23 things, and already learnt something.
Wordpress looks like a great platform to use for a blog, but on registration it asks for 4 eur per month for web hosting... Well for scientists already handing out their excuses for not communicating their research - there's another. But hey don't be put off too soon. There ARE free ways to communicate! I found blogger.com offers free hosting. It doesn't appear to be as user friendly, but it seems to do the job? We'll find out.
So what is this blog?
S&M for scientists?! That's Social Media, guys. The thing that terrifies scientists. But research not communicated, is research not done. The world needs scientists to speak up!
For the last few years I've been working in comms, trying to communicate and disseminate about research and encourage researchers to have their voice heard. Now I have crossed the fence, to embark on a PhD journey myself. While I am familiar with some aspects of social media, it is a rapidly developing field. Plus I am sure there are many tools available for researchers that I am yet to get to grips with, and experience from a researcher's perspective.
Feel the fear, and do it anyway.
